Dr. Christopher Banda

Medical Director

Dr. Christopher joined Partners In Health (Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo) in February 2024 as the Medical Director. A specialized Beit Trust Fellow in Tropical and Infectious Diseases, he brings over 24 years of extensive experience in health service delivery, health systems strengthening, and emergency response across Malawi.

Professional Background

Dr. Christopher has a distinguished career in clinical leadership and hospital management:

  • Clinical Executive Leadership: Prior to joining PIH, he served as the Chief Clinical Services Officer at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital.
  • Hospital Management: He formerly served as the medical director at St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital.
  • Governance and Advocacy: He has provided strategic guidance as a former board member for the Beit Trust (UK) and the Mark Wainberg HIV Fellowship for Africa.

Clinical Leadership & Strategic Oversight

In his current role, Dr. Christopher is responsible for shaping the clinical vision of PIH Malawi. His work focuses on:

  • Strategy & Policy: Leading clinical strategy and the implementation of national and organizational health policies.
  • Quality Improvement: Spearheading clinical quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
  • Emergency Response: Leveraging over two decades of experience to fortify health systems against emerging medical challenges.
