PIH Worldwide
Partners In Health (PIH) is a nonprofit corporation and a Massachusetts public charity. The programmatic work of PIH is guided by our Leadership Council, overseen by the Board of Directors, and supported by the Officers and leaders in our cross-site management team.
Partners In Health collaborates with national governments to provide care and strengthen public health systems in areas including cancer and chronic disease, child health, emergency response, HIV/AIDS, maternal health, mental health, and tuberculosis.
Founders
Ophelia Dahl: A co-founder of Partners In Health (PIH), starting in Haiti over 30 years ago. PIH now serves millions across 11 countries. Dahl led PIH for 16 years and currently chairs the Board of Directors.
Dr. Paul Farmer: Physician, anthropologist, and PIH co-founder. He held positions at Harvard Medical School but also at Brigham and Women’s Hospital focusing on global health and equity. Dr. Farmer advocated for community-based medicine and wrote extensively on health, human rights, and social justice.
Dr. Jim Yong Kim: Currently with Global Infrastructure Partners, Dr. Kim co-founded PIH and developed treatment programs for diseases like MDR-TB and AIDS in various countries. He served as Director of the World Health Organization’s HIV and AIDS department, Dartmouth College President, and World Bank Group President.
Todd McCormack: A PIH co-founder and longtime friend of Dr. Farmer, McCormack supports PIH by securing resources and collaborating with the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors.
Tom White: Dedicated to improving lives in vulnerable communities, White provided crucial funding for PIH’s work. He donated millions, eventually selling his company, assets, and house to further support the organization.
