Director of Strategic Partnerships and Grants Acquisition

Makhumbo Raymond Munthali joined Partners In Health (Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo) in March 2023. As the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Grants Acquisition, his mission is to drive resource mobilization and coalition building, enabling the organization to attain Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and provide essential care for the most vulnerable populations in Malawi.

Professional Background

Makhumbo brings a wealth of experience in human rights, advocacy, and international development to PIH:

  • Human Rights Leadership: He previously served as the Director of Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights at the Malawi Human Rights Commission (2020–2023).
  • International Development Expertise: He held several key leadership roles at Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), including Programmes Development Manager, Policy and Advocacy Manager, and Project Manager.
  • Resource Mobilization: He served as the Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Coordinator at the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation.

Strategic Oversight & Partnership Management

In his current role, Makhumbo works in close collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Ministry of Health to:

  • Grant Acquisition: Identify and manage high-impact grants with implementing and technical partners.
  • Coalition Building: Develop and prioritize strategic partnerships with donors and stakeholders to strengthen health systems.
  • Advocacy for UHC: Leverage his background in public administration to influence policy and secure the resources necessary for equitable healthcare delivery.
