Medical Education

Medical Education program has centralizes training for healthcare workers. Launched in 2022, it supports doctors, nurses, and students by coordinating professional development activities. The program aims to make Neno a leading center for medical education within the country.
Our Impact
Medical education is a program aimed at harmonizing all continuous professional development endeavors APZU and its staff members were involved in. The program has been able to support 26 MoH staff members to upgrade to new qualifications ranging from diplomas to master degrees. It has also supported 46 medical students during their attachments in Neno. The program has supported 10 nursing students through a two-year long nursing fellowship.

The program has been able to support 26 Ministry of Health staff members to upgrade to new qualifications ranging from diplomas to master degrees.
- 10NQNM Fellowship
January 2023,PIH Malawi through GAIN Project, launched a fellowship program to facilitate an effective and well-defined transition of Newly Qualified Nurse Midwives (NQNM) supporting 10 NQNM.
- 46Mentorship
PIH Malawi has also supported 46 medical students during their attachments in Neno.
Medical education is a new program which started in July 2022 aimed at harmonizing all continuous professional development endeavors APZU and its staff members were involved in.
Before the conception of the Medical Education program, the medical education and trainings were happening at departmental levels. The program coordinates continuous professional development activities for APZU, MoH staff members, and clinical students attachment in Neno.
Furthermore, the program coordinates PIH Malawi’s funded on job and other trainings that PIH Malawi is involved in.
Built under the 5s model of PIH, the Medical Education program aims at improving the support for continuous professional development for PIH Malawi and MoH staff members in their various fields of expertise.

Going forward
The program aims at growing and make Neno a center of excellence. This will be achieved through benchmarking of similar programs being run in other PIH sites (i.e. Rwanda and Sierra Leone).
Through the partnership office in Lilongwe, the program offers a platform where staff members from other districts can benefit by spending time in Neno and have on job training, bringing to life the “Neno being a center of excellency” idea.
