OUR TEAM

ONEPIH:

Partners In Health (PIH) is a 501 nonprofit corporation and a Massachusetts public charity. The programmatic work of PIH is guided by our Leadership Council, overseen by the Board of Directors, and supported by the Officers and leaders in our cross-site management team.

PIH MALAWI

Partners In Health (PIH)/ Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) is a nonprofit organization that primarily focuses on providing preferential option to care to its beneficiaries. PIH Malawi is a sister organization to Partners In Health, an international organization working in 11 other countries across the world. 

PIH Malawi’s headquarters is located in Neno at the boma (approximately 90 km from Blantyre), in the southern region of Malawi and it has offices in Lisungwi as well as in Lilongwe, area 3. 

PIH Malawi site is led by Basimenye Nhlema the Executive Director (ED). Basimenye joined PIH Malawi in 2017 as community health director, then became Chief Operating Officer (COO) before assuming the position of Executive Director in November of 2023. 

PIH Malawi has an Executive Leadership Team (ELT) that consists of the Executive Director (ED), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and Chief Health Systems Policy Advisor (CHSPA).

The ELT is responsible for setting the site agenda and strategy in alignment with OnePIH and the Ministry of Health’s priorities. The ELT further oversees the implementation of the PIH mission and values in Malawi. Below ELT is the senior management team (SMT) consisting of department directors responsible for operational management, effective implementation of site strategy, and overseeing day-to-day activities in their departments.
